Research Centre for Agrivoltaics · Saxony-Anhalt

One site.
Three uses.
One research field.

We investigate how agriculture, photovoltaics and biodiversity can be combined on a single site — economically viable and ecologically sound. Three installations on the Anhalt University campus in Bernburg provide the data.

What is AgriPVplus?

Conventional ground-mounted PV takes land out of production. AgriPVplus shows that the same site can generate electricity, produce food and create habitat.

Agri

Farming stays the primary use

Requirements, economics, land management and hands-on experience from the demonstrator. Factual, without a sales pitch.

PV

Power generation in the field

Bifacial vertical modules or tracker systems — matched to the crop, the maintenance intervals and the daylight curve.

Plus

Biodiversity as the third layer

Flowering strips at the foot of the modules, mosaic structures across the stand — measurable added value over pure arable or PV land.

Our research installations

On our test fields at the Anhalt University campus in Bernburg we are trialling three different AgriPVplus concepts. One installation is operating, two more will follow.

  • In operation

Vertical modules with arable land and flowering strips

Bifacial east–west modules, cereals grown in strips, flowering strips at the foot of the modules.

  • Under construction

Tracker system with arable land and flowering strips

Tracked modules above arable strips, accessible with a standard combine harvester.

  • In planning

Tracker system with grassland and grazing

Elevated trackers, extensive sheep grazing, mosaic grassland.

Three arguments for triple land use

01

Economically viable

One site, two revenue streams. AgriPVplus preserves agricultural soil while opening up income from electricity generation. Habitat elements can be offset as compensation measures or rewarded through funding schemes.

02

Ecologically effective

Flowering strips, field margins and extensive management are part of the system, not an add-on. This creates habitat for insects, ground-nesting birds and small animals — on land that would otherwise be purely technical.

03

Practically feasible

AgriPVplus follows DIN SPEC 91434 and builds on ongoing research with real installations. Permitting, planning and cultivation can be based on solid evidence.

Concrete answers for those who decide

For farmers

What AgriPVplus means for your land

For authorities and municipalities
